AN Andover College hair and media make-up student has been honoured at the Professional Beauty Show London 2014.

Lois North took third place in the Warpaint Magazine Make-up Competition, which was open to both established make-up artists and those new to the industry.

Her winning design was for the fashion category, with the theme of spring/summer 2014 catwalk trends.

The brief required the competitors to create a trend which appealed to both fashionistas and the high street.

Lois said: “I chose to base my design around the couture collection by Elie Saab who is renowned for his fairytale creations which are beautiful and magical. My research established that Elie’s latest collection had been influenced by a historical painting called The Roses of Heliogabalus, which was based around the Roman Empire, and this is what inspired my hair and make-up design ideas.”

Lois’s winning make-up incorporated cherry blossom found in the painting and the hair design was based around the Flavian Roman Empire hairstyle – high hair with roses weaved in and out of big curls.

Lois added: “The whole experience was incredible and I was extremely proud of the finished outcome. It was my first competition and I have picked up many points to improve on for the next one.”
