WILTSHIRE’S new High Sheriff was sworn in last month in a ceremony which dates back to Saxon times.

Mr Peter Addington undertook his declaration and acceptance at the town hall, Devizes, taking over from Mr.

William Wyldbore-Smith.

He will be responsible for a number of ceremonial duties during his year of office.

Mr Addington has been farming in Wiltshire for 45 years, and has been active in marketing organisations and was chairman of Wiltshire National Farmers’ Union.
