MEMBERS of an Andover charity will be embarking on a 4,000-mile sponsored walk around Britain and parts of Belgium.

Veterans in Action, based in Redenham Park Estate, will be setting off on Saturday on their big journey.

The group of 10 will take 100 days to complete their walk.

It will see them traversing the coastlines from Belgium to London and parts of Scotland, with a return to London on 4 August.

They hope to be joined by 100 other walkers as they venture through 700 villages, towns and cities, hoping to raise £100,000 for Veterans in Action.

The walk is to commemorate 100 years since the First World War broke out, with the 4 August finishing line being particularly poignant as it will mark the anniversary of war being declared.

It is hoped that the walkers will be waved off by the Prime Minister’s wife Samantha Cameron when they reach London in May.

Billy MacLeod, who is leading the walk, said: “Walking is a fantastic way to overcome the issues that the veterans have and it’s a way of highlighting post-traumatic stress.”

The team has been working on a support bus and hopes that it will be ready in time to accompany the walkers.
