FOUR new homes could be built on a plot of land near Andover if developers are given the thumbs up.

Test Valley Borough Council has received a planning application to build the cul-de-sac of detached four-bedroom houses on land adjacent to Park House, in Barley Road.

The land originally formed the garden of Park House before Augusta Park was built.

Many letters of objections have been received by the borough council, with nearby residents worried that the access is too tight and that the two-storey buildings will be overbearing on surrounding properties.

However planning officers have recommended that the plans are given permission when they are discussed at the northern area planning committee on Thursday, 8 May.

A report concluded: “While recognising that the principle of development in such a countryside location represents a departure from the provisions of the TVBLP policy SET03 it is considered that other material considerations outweigh the presumption against development in this instance.

“The proposal is considered to be accommodated on the site without detriment to the character and appearance of the area.”
