THE fascinating story of a company in the early part of the 20th century has been told.

Called ‘A Personalised History and Memories of Anna Valley Motors Limited, Andover: Also the surrounding local area of Andover’ it is written by local author Percival Trodd.

Percy joined Anna Valley Motors shortly after leaving school in March 1933 and relates his career and management duties with the company, which spanned nearly 30 years until its closure in 1962.

With a broad knowledge of the organisation he has produced a beautifully illustrated book.

The first chapter concentrates on Anna Valley Motors, whilst others include the construction of the Palace cinema/theatre (later the Odeon), William Dibben and Sons Limited (the builders’ merchant), train and bus operations, retail businesses in Bridge Street and The Broadway, and the Western Road residential area.

The latter includes names of prominent local business residents and the Andover Advertiser Holmes’ family.

The book is priced at £16 and copies can be obtained on 01264 351651.
