A HAMPSHIRE junior school has a gold medallist in its ranks.
After being crowned South East Regional Skills Diving Champion St Swithun’s Junior School, pupil Evie Johnson, 11, travelled to Sheffield with 24 divers from Southampton Diving Academy, who all qualified to compete at the National Skills Diving finals.
Evie, who swims for Winchester City Penguins Club, competed in the age 11 category with 41 divers from across the country, performing a total of 12 dives from poolside, 1 metre and 3 metre springboards.
In an extremely tense competition which lasted more than 90 minutes, Evie was awarded several 9.5s and 9s, winning a gold medal place by a clear margin.
