AFTER being threatened with closure, the Overton community celebrated the opening of its swimming pool for the summer.

Local BBC personality Caroline Richardson was on hand to open the Overton Primary School and Lordsfield Swimming Club pool after its future was secured following local fundraising.

In a joint venture, Overton Primary School and Lordsfield Swimming Club launched a sterling effort to prevent the loss to the village of the well-used facility.

Committee member Lauren McCann said: “The people of Overton have stepped up and made good on their promise to help.

“Our first aiders and pool rescuers are trained, our supervisors are in place and our committee members, creative fundraisers and local sponsors have all been amazing. It’s been a real community effort and everyone was really excited to see the opening of the pool for the summer.”

A family swim marked the opening, and retiring swimming club chairman Charlie Thorn was presented with an honorary membership as thanks for his 30 years of voluntary service.
