COUNCILLOR Keith Watts will represent Whitchurch on Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council after a resounding election win.

Liberal Democrat Mr Watts received 1,033 votes to see off competition from Tom Thacker, Simon Hession and Colin Phillimore.

Mr Thacker received 469 votes, Mr Hession 203 and Mr Phillimore 152, as 1,865 voters took to the polls – a 45 per cent turnout.

Cllr Watts said: “I am grateful for the confidence shown in me by the people of Whitchurch.

“I shall continue to listen to what local people have to say and exercise my judgement in the best interests of Whitchurch and Hurstbourne Priors.”

Elsewhere, independent councillor Ian Tilbury retained his seat for Overton, Freefolk and Steventon with 1,070 votes.
