GCSE art pupils at Rookwood School, Andover, found their text books brought to life this month when twenty three of them travelled to Florence to meet the might of the Renaissance first-hand.
After a quick detour to Pisa’s cathedral and famous leaning tower the students made their way to the ‘heart’ of Renaissance art and architecture where they spent four days immersing themselves in the Uffizi Gallery, the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio – aided by a steady supply of gelato and pizza.
Alex Treasure, head of art, who accompanied the pupils on their journey, was delighted with the success of the visit, commenting that it had made a significant impact on the students and “truly kindled their Rookwood’s GCSE art pupils in Florence studying the Renaissance first-hand passion and enthusiasm for art”.
