  • "What is needed is to be more concerned with dealing with the Pot Holes all over Andover?
Speed limit of 20 MPH puts more wear & tear & increase in fuel on cars and this is not the answer to the said problem nor is the miss use of speed cameras as these are now seen as cash cows? and the police like to set them up on upward slopes & down ward and never on a straight road's and they hide behind hedges I have seen them do it on many a time? So re think about this 20 limit ???????"

Andover residents have say on speeding

Andover Advertiser: Andover residents have say on speeding Andover residents have say on speeding

RESIDENTS have had their say about how to put the brakes on an Andover road being used as a racetrack.

The consultation was held on Wednesday afternoon and evening at St Paul’s Church and Community Centre in Smannell Road.

People popped in from 1.30pm and aired their views about how to reduce speeding along the main road into Andover.

Residents had previously called for a 20mph speed limit along the 30mph road, claiming that it was used as a racetrack from Augusta Park into the town centre.

Transport officers from Test Valley Borough Council and Hampshire County Council were on hand to talk through possible traffic calming measures with residents.

Andover town councillor Barbara Carpenter held a residents’ meeting in the evening to gauge more public reaction about the problem.

She told the Advertiser: “It was absolutely fantastic. I was really pleased.

“The people were just walking in all afternoon. People had to put their bits of paper in about what they thought should be done.

“We are just waiting now for all the feedback.

“There was quite a lot of concern about the roads.”

She added: “The police have been very good but there are occasions when there are those who use it as a racetrack, especially towards Augusta Park, so we have to deal with that.”

Cllr Carpenter also wants to set up a community speedwatch scheme in the area.
