HUNDREDS of new homes could be built on fields in Charlton.

Last week residents received letters about proposals for land off Foxcotte Lane.

Gladman Developments has launched a consultation into the plans for 200 homes.

Some 40 per cent of the new homes would be affordable housing for local people, with new open spaces created and footpaths for residents.

In a leaflet outlining why the village is suitable for the new housing, Gladman says: “Charlton supports a range of services and facilities which are used by both residents of the village and those in the surrounding rural area.

“The site is well located, with good access to existing community facilities and the local public transport network.

“The proposal will provide new homes to sustain the vitality and viability of the local community.”

However, a villager, who did not wish to be named, said: “Two hundred houses will have a significant impact on the village.”
