LOCAL MP Claire Perry was one of the women MPs promoted in this week’s Government shake-up.
In David Cameron’s last reshuffle before the General Election, he appointed the Devizes MP as Transport Minister.
Mrs Perry, who became assistant whip last year, is one of many female faces to be promoted by Mr Cameron.
She said: “I was incredibly fortunate to be offered a job as a Transport Minister with primary responsibility for rail franchising and ticketing (but not HS2).
“With our national railways busier than any time since the 1920s, punctuality above German and French levels, almost £40billion of new money being spent on the non-HS2 rail network over the next five years and local rail links being a top priority for my constituents, it really is a fantastic job and I am already deep in the portfolio.”
The MP and Wellington Academy governor has led a Parliamentary inquiry, conducting a review of online child protection, and in December 2012 was appointed special adviser to the Prime Minister on preventing the commercialisation and sexualisation of childhood.
