DRIVERS using the A303 are facing long overnight diversions.

The diversions are in place because of resurfacing work which has started on the A303 between Bullington Cross (exit for the A34) and the A3093 Picket Twenty Junction, near Andover.

The Highways Agency says the resurfacing is required to ensure the road remains in a safe and serviceable condition.

It will lead to major overnight diversions which could add up to 40 minutes to a journey.

The work on the westbound carriageway will be carried out with full weekday overnight closures, between 10pm and 6am, between Bullington Cross (exit for the A34) and the A3093 Picket Twenty Junction.

They will also be on selected slip roads at Barton Stacey and Longparish until Friday, 29 August, Wednesday, 3 September, and Friday, 12 September until Tuesday, 23 September.

Work will also be carried out on the eastbound carriageway with full weekday overnight closures, between 10pm and 6am, between Bullington Cross and the A3093 Picket Twenty Junction, and on selected slip roads at Barton Stacey and Longparish from Thursday, 4 September until Thursday, 11 September and Wednesday, 24 September and Friday, 3 October.

During the closures, clearly signed diversion routes via the A3093, A343 and A34 will be in place.

This route is approximately 29 miles long and road users affected by a closure should allow an additional 30 to 40 minutes depending on their final destination.
