OVERTON went quackers for its ninth annual duck race, with hundreds of people turning out to see a number of brightly coloured plastic ducks race along the River Test.

Eight races featuring 150 ducks battling it out to win the top prize at the Great Overton Duck Race were held on Monday, with the winner scooping £100 in prize money.

Overton resident Isobel Edwards was crowned the overall winner whilst Anne Gilks, also of Overton, scooped £50 after coming second in the final.

A special race was held for people’s own ducks.

It cost £1 to buy and race a duck. All money raised at the event at Flashetts, in Station Road, will go towards the upkeep of St Mary’s Hall in High Street.

Maggs Steward, one of the organisers, said: “The village was so supportive, it was unbelievable. We had 100 villagers and normally we would get more but understandably we didn’t because of the weather.

“We were absolutely thrilled with the event and to be able to say that with the weather we had.

“It was fabulous with the support we had from the people of Overton and the community really shone.”
