SHOPPERS at the Co-operative store in Weyhill Road were whisked back in time for some 70s fun last Saturday.

Staff dressed in their 70s finery in order to raise money for Icknield School, joined by one of its pupils.

The school is the store’s chosen charity for the year and generous shoppers have so far managed to raise around £1,000.

Employee Jean Perry, who is also the grandmother of Olivia Goodeve, the Icknield student who joined in with the fundraising efforts, said that the day was a huge success.

“Olivia collected £317 in just her collection box, which isn’t bad at all for two hours’ work.

“A lot of the customers said that her smile made it worth it.

“We would like to thank the customers for their generosity as it has got us a lot closer to the store’s target of raising £2,000 for the school this year.

“The raffle is still going on and tickets are still available in the store right up until our draw on Saturday night.

Prizes include a Chinese meal worth £20, a hamper, photography from David Facey and a fish and chip supper from Zenith Fish Bar.”
