A TEAM of intrepid walkers from Ludgershall will be taking on the three highest mountains in Great Britain – in just 24 hours – to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

The team of nine will be scaling the Three Peaks – Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scarfell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in North Wales – in one frantic day on Saturday.

They will walk 24 miles, climbing 10,000 feet (and back down again), and travelling 450 miles in between, in a minibus donated by Wellington Academy, Ludgershall.

The fundraising event has been organised by Kerri Spanswick and her brother, Alan Brown, whose mum Sandra Brown died two years ago, aged only 51, after a three-year battle with the cancer.

“The survival rates for pancreatic cancer haven’t changed for 40 years.

And we want to do whatever we can to help change that,” said Kerri.

She added: “We miss our mum every day. At 51, she should have had many more years with us.

“We don’t want people to go through the same things as we’ve done. But without more research, nothing will change.

“We hope friends, family – and even strangers – sponsor us. We’re not fussy.

It’s a great cause that really needs our support.”
