AFTER his saunter through the Stonehenge national heritage site, US President Barack Obama’s entourage swept through Collingbourne Ducis on their way home.

But one of his senior team and a member of his cabinet stopped off and enjoyed an evening meal at The Tipple Inn in Collingbourne Ducis.

Obama’s national security adviser Ambassador Susan Rice, together with half a dozen beefy bodyguards, called in at the village pub, leaving just after 9pm.

Landlord Steve Hickey said “She opted for fish and chips and said she didn’t want anything American.

“The six bodyguards all opted for steaks of course.”

As the president’s national security adviser she oversees the National Security Council staff, chairs the cabinet level National Security Principals Committee, provides the President’s daily national security briefing, and is responsible for the coordination and integration of the administration’s foreign policy, intelligence, and military efforts.

From January 2009 until assuming the role of national security adviser in July 2013, Ambassador Rice served as the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations and a member of President Obama’s cabinet.

At the United Nations, she worked to advance US interests, defend universal values, strengthen the world’s common security and prosperity, and promote respect for human rights.

Mr Hickey added: “Hopefully she will advise the president how good the fish and chips were, so if he decided to return and visits Avebury, he might drop in at The Tipple Inn in person.”
