ANDOVER College began the new academic year with a glittering evening of awards at The Lights on Wednesday, 3 September.

Students drawn from a wide variety of disciplines, both academic and practical, were applauded for their outstanding achievements at the college.

A taste of what could be achieved was given at the start of the event with a thoroughly engrossing talk by college alumna and past achievement award- winner Helen Kirkup.

Her enthusiasm for fashion and the craft of shoemaking set the tone for an uplifting event which gave considerable insight into how the college has made so much progress, and attracted so many students in recent years.

Helen graduated from the University of Nottingham with firstclass honours in fashion (footwear and accessories).

This year’s cohort of students have progressed on to more than 60 universities.

Principal Tim Jackson praised staff and students at the event and thanked the sponsors for making the evening another success.
