CRAFTERS, bakers and candlestick makers flocked to Weyhill Fairground last weekend for the Michaelmas Fair.

The annual fair had been cancelled last year due to building work but it was back this year with everything from craft stalls and fresh food to old fashioned fun-fair rides to keep both the parents and their children amused.

The fair also benefited from the weekend’s delightful weather which made sure the event was enjoyed both indoors and out.

Penton Grafton Parish Council helps to run the event alongside the Fairground Craft and Design Centre and one of the organisers, professional photographer, Phil Evans, was delighted with its success.

He said: “It was extremely well received and there was a good response from both exhibitors and from our visitors, everyone was happy.

“We had great feedback speaking to people who have said they would come back, which is great as well.”

The fair attracted around 2,000 people over the two days with many parents bringing their children for the face-painting and the traditional fairground rides.

There were plenty of other activities to keep adults occupied too with a variety of crafts on sale and a live demonstration from a blacksmith.

One of the craftsmen who was displaying at the fair was bespoke furniture maker David Stephenson and he was glad to have the fair back.

He said: “We had a fair few people come to fair and people seemed to enjoy the experience.

“Last year we didn’t have one (a fair) so it was nice treat to have one this year.”

Organisers at the Fairground are now turning their attention to the Christmas fair which they hope will take place in the first week of December.
