LOCAL bands, the town mayor and a celebrity guest are raising money for two local charities with Oxjam at The Lights in November.

Organised by Alabaré Christian Care (The Junction) the line-up includes Ultraviolet, Organic Process, The Friscos and Outside Central as well as Madd Elizabeth from the Guildford College of Music.

The concert on Wednesday, 5 November will raise money for The Junction and Oxfam.

The Junction is an information and guidance centre for young people offering services including CV writing, employment and benefit advice, pre-tenancy training and food vouchers. As a hub for 16-18 year olds who are homeless there is also a free internet café and pool table.

The charity has been running The Soundwave Music Project since October 2013 delivering an arts award via Trinity College, London, to young people between 13 and 25.

There are currently over 80 people on its music courses and, so far, 19 have gained bronze arts awards.

The celebrity guest who will be opening proceedings on the night is from ITV Fixers, which has made short films with the charity’s serviceusers raising awareness of issues like suicide, homelessness and domestic violence.

The concert runs from 7pm to 11pm and tickets are £5 available on the door or from The Junction, Alabaré charity shop or Oxfam.
