FOLLOWING on from the success of Cinderella in January Whitchurch’s theatre group WADS will be putting on another Stuart Paterson production this December.

Hansel and Gretel will be running at Whitchurch Parish Hall from Thursday, 4 to Saturday, 6 December at 7.30pm with a matinee performance on the Saturday at 2.30pm.

Definitely not a pantomime but most definitely a very funny family play, Hansel and Gretel is based on the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tale, with Paterson once again taking liberties with the story.

Our two heroes stumble upon a colourful circus family but are tricked into following their new friends to the wicked witch’s sweetcovered lair. Hansel is given over to the witch in return for the imprisoned father of the circus family.

But Gretel won’t give in and frees her brother in the same way.

Helped by Orin the Faerie King and the mysterious Monkey Boy the children defeat the witch with a combination of kindness and courage.

The play is an amateur production performed by an arrangement with Nick Hern Books and music by Savourna Stevenson.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and £7 for concessions.

There is also a family ticket for two adults and two children or one adult and three children at £30.

Tickets are available from Kingsley Financial, 2 Winchester Street, Whitchurch, by visiting the online box office at wadsweb.ticketsource.co.uk or by calling 01256 892514.
