Andover Wine Circle

THE December meeting of the Andover Wine Circle was held at the Welling Centre and its chairman was their vice chairman Wayne Firth.

He announced that as it was the pre-Christmas meeting the programme for the evening followed tradition and included a wine tasting, an ‘American Supper’ type meal provided by members bringing along a plate of goodies that were mainly home cooked and the grand draw with many prizes.

The wine tasting was led by Den Borrett who chose four wines for a dinner party.

Members tasted an aperitif, white and red table wines and a dessert wine. There was an Italian Prosecco, an Italian Pinot Grigio white table wine, an Austrian Shiraz red table wine and a French Muscat sweet dessert wine.

The description of each wine including the flavours, aroma and the various uses for each was described. Members commented on their impression of each wine following their tasting.

There then followed the supper. The variety and types of snacks on display were admired and enjoyed. Many recipes were commented upon and created much discussion between the women members.

The grand Christmas draw followed which must have included some 30 prizes. This had been organised by Sue Waites and John Gibson.

Everyone involved in the organisation of the evening was thanked by the chairman and received great applause from the members. Christmas wishes were exchanged, as many well satisfied members left for home at the end of the evening.
