Police have launched a manhunt after a woman was sexually assaulted on a quiet Andover street.

The female, aged in her twenties, was approached by a man driving a silver Volkswagen Golf as she walked along Jacobs Close in the early hours of Saturday January 10.

The driver, who is described as black, with corn-braided hair, offered the woman a lift and then allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the incident, which is said to have taken place between 1am and 1.30am.

Police are also keen to hear from anyone who saw the Volkswagen Golf or its driver in the area around the time of the incident.

DC Dan Leese said: “I’d like to appeal to anybody who may have seen this vehicle and driver or may have information about this incident. It’s occurred at night in a quiet area of Andover and is a rare occurrence.

“I would not advise people to panic, but for females to take sensible precautions when walking alone at night and not to accept lifts from strangers.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Leese at Basingstoke police station on 101, quoting crime reference number 44140009968.
