“IT’S an accident waiting to happen.”

Those are the words of Andover town councillor Barbara Carpenter following recent works in Tiberius Road.

The works had been undertaken by developer Abbey Development Limited in a busy alleyway at the bottom of the road.

The developers had dug up part of the road and a path between Tiberius Road and the new development.

Cllr Carpenter said: “I keep getting complaints about it.

“They have also taken all the shrubs and hedges out. I don’t know if they plan to replace it.

“There are a lot of elderly people in this part of the road and some use mobility scooters.

“Then there are the mothers who take their pushchairs down the alleyway.”

One resident, whose property looks out onto the affected area, said: “They seem to have just left it like that.”

A spokesman for Hampshire County Council said that Abbey Development Limited was asked by Highways in February to rectify the situation and that the authority would chase them up.

Abbey Development Limited declined to comment.

It comes in the week the Advertiser reveals that HCC paid out nearly £50,000 in compensation to people who suffered footpath falls in Andover last year.
