FIREFIGHTERS had to rescue a double decker bus which had crashed into a Test Valley bridge last night, ripping part of the roof off.
Crews from Romsey and Redbridge were called to the Sun Arch in Romsey after an overnight Blue Star bus had been driven under the bridge and lost the top of the vehicle.
The bus driver and his passengers were not injured as they were in the downstairs section of the bus but police are now investigating the incident which happened at around 11.40pm last night.
A spokesman for Redbridge Fire Station said that they sent a crew of eight with specialist removal equipment at 12.06am after Romsey fire crews had worked to make sure the area and the bridge was still safe.
He added that the incident had now been handed over to police who were working to make sure the bridge would be safe for the public today.
