A COMMUNITY-MINDED Faberstown resident is warning others not to fall for a People’s Postcode Lottery scam.

David Adamson’s wife Anne received a letter from the ‘People’s Postcode Lottery’ informing her that she had won a jackpot of £825,000.

The letter states the winning ticket was drawn as part of its international programme held in Madrid, Spain.

Written in poor English, it was signed by someone called ‘Baron Wheels’ who is listed as the president of the company.

A paragraph near the bottom of the letter said: “Note that once your processing fee is paid, you will receive your winnings in the form of a certified cheque or if you request, by bank transfer directly into your bank account.”

Immediately sceptical, Mr Adamson, 78, cross-referenced the information on his ‘winning’ letter with a quick search on Google.

His suspicions were confirmed when the search came back informing him it was a scam with similar cases mentioned in Sussex.

Having read the case of a lady in Sussex, he discovered that the new found ‘fortune’ in a competition they hadn’t entered was that they were asked to spend £1,900 to ensure safe receipt of the winnings.

“They sent two letters in the same post, obviously just to make sure,” he said.

"Having heard about the cases in Sussex I just wanted to warn people about it around here.

“We didn’t fall for it, we saw it was a scam straight away, but if they send out so many letters it just takes a small percentage of vulnerable people to be duped. It is relatively convincing.”

The real People’s Postcode Lottery says it will not under any circumstances request a payment to receive any prize.
