AN Andover couple have spoken out about how they are still waiting for work to be completed on their £370,000 home three months after moving in.

Tony and Carole Cullen approached the Advertiser after reading our recent story regarding Andy Bell’s purchase of an unfinished property on the extensive development.

The couple describe how they experienced disruption in the run up to completion of their property from Persimmon – forcing them to move into a holiday let – and then finding a catalogue of unfinished work on return. Three months on, they are still waiting for the work to be finished. The couple say they were due to exchange contracts on their four-bedroom property the week before Christmas with an anticipated completion date of the end of January.

In the run up to Christmas, the completion date was extended to the end of March, which forced them to continue the sale of their previous property with nowhere to move to.

Mr Cullen, said: “Due to the timescales, we were unable to get a rental property and had to take on holiday lets for seven weeks costing £3,000.”

A completion date of March 27 was finally negotiated, but the couple say they found a total of “53 issues” including windows not properly closing, the garden not turfed, paving not completed, kitchen cupboards badly damaged and the aerial not fitted.

On top of paying £369,000 for the property and £3,000 for holiday accommodation, they have paid £20,000 in upgrades and extras to get the work completed.

Matt Paine, managing director of Charles Church South Coast, a subsidiary of Persimmon, said: “We have experienced some technical issues with a small number of properties for which we apologise, but we are working closely with purchasers and tenants to rectify them as swiftly as possible.

“These are isolated incidents among the properties already constructed on this substantial development and are not reflective of the overall quality of the scheme.”
