ANDOVER Lipreaders has received a huge cash boost from a local supermarket to pay for extra classes.
The charity was presented with a cheque for £1,500 from Tesco’s Charity Trust Awards Scheme.
Barrie Wickens, secretary of the Andover Lipreaders’ group said: “We provide three classes per week, each of up to 12 adult students, to learn the theory and practice of lip-reading.
“Lip-reading is a vital life skill for those with a hearing loss.
“Tuition in lip-reading, coping strategies and management of day-to-day activities should be provided free of charge to people.
“The generous donation helps to fund three classes for a complete term.”
Andover’s Tesco community champion Sheryl Scott-Clarke said: “I’m just overwhelmed.
“I’m just so lucky to be able to give these cheques out.”
Tesco River Way store manager, Andy McColl, added: “It’s great that this will help fund classes for a much-needed programme.”
