POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 97-year-old woman died in a fatal collision yesterday.

The incident involving three vehicles took place on the A345 at Netheravon shortly after 1pm.

Emergency services attended the scene near the junction of Pigott Close where the red Fiat Punto, black Peugeot 307 and white Transit Van collided.

The road remained closed for more than five hours while evidence was gathered by crash scene investigators.

Officers have confirmed that the driver of the Fiat Punto, a 97-year-old woman from Upavon, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of the other vehicles did not sustain any injuries.

Wiltshire Police are now asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

PC Philip Tatem said: “I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the collision or the vehicles involved in the lead up to the incident.

“At this stage the cause of the collision is under investigation but it is believed that a vehicle may have veered into the path of the lady’s car.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call PC Tatem on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
