SCORES of robbers, thugs, perverts and fraudsters were jailed in Hampshire in January.

Here we round up some of the cases hitting the headlines in our county last month...

PCSO jailed for possessing "sickening" images of children

A police community support officer who lived in North Hampshire and swapped child pornography for drugs was jailed.

James Richard Wicks, of Kirby Drive, Bramley near Tadley, was sentenced to two years in prison for possessing indecent images of children, described by a senior prosecutor as "sickening and very disturbing".

The 35-year-old, who served for Thames Valley Police, pleaded guilty at Winchester Crown Court to the distribution of an indecent image of a child, six counts of possessing indecent images of a child and a further charge of supplying a class A drug.

Andover radio boss and barman jailed for fraud

An Andover radio boss and former club barman who was the victim of a lottery scam was jailed after conning people out of more than £100,000.

Keith Kapri appeared at Winchester Crown Court where he was sentenced for eight counts of fraud relating to conning six people out of a sum in excess of £100,000, after being found guilty at a trial.

Kapri was a former barman at Cameo & Vinyl and remains the registered director of Dance FM, the company that applied to Ofcom to broadcast Andover Beat.

Augusta Park man jailed over cannabis possession and £180 drill theft

An Augusta Park man was jailed for seven days after stealing an expensive drill and being caught with cannabis.

Dean Alexander Richardson, of Romney Road, committed the offences on the same day in November.

On January 14 he pleaded guilty to stealing a £180 Matika drill from Wickes in Andover and indicated a plea of guilty of possessing cannabis, a class B drug.

Magistrates in Basingstoke jailed him for seven days "because the offence was aggravated by the defendant's record of previous offending".

Man admits causing death by careless driving

A man was jailed for reversing into a grandmother from Southampton and killing her.

Tomasz Fojcik was sentenced to 14 months in prison for causing the death of Jean Mallett by careless driving.

Mrs Mallett was crossing Cannon Street in Shirley when Fojcik reversed into her.

The 63-year-old from Coxford suffered serious head injuries and died nine weeks later in hospital.

Ten years for assault on pensioner

A man who sexually assaulted a pensioner at a Hampshire care home has been jailed for 10 years.

George Foca, 36, was employed in the position of a health care assistant when he attacked the woman at the home in Fareham in October 2015.

He was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court and in addition he was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.

Men sentenced after 35 vehicles and buildings damaged along main road

Two men are behind bars after a "mindless campaign to cause criminal damage" which saw 35 vehicles and buildings in Hampshire targeted.

Alec Hammerton and Damon Jennings pleaded guilty to using ball bearings and stones to damage car and property windows along the A272 between Winchester and Petersfield.

Between June and September last year they targeted a number of vehicles and properties along the road.

They pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit criminal damage at Winchester Crown Courtearlier and now 43-year-old Hammerton, from Fieldmere Close, Witney in Oxfordshire and 44-year-old Jennings, from Manorfields Road in Milton Keynes, have been sentenced to eight months in prison.

Smash and grab raid drug addict jailed

A drug addict involved in staging a smash-and-grab raid where nearly £2,000 of cigarettes were stolen from a New Forest convenience store has been jailed.

Shaun Havard was part of a gang which launched a raid under the cover of darkness in the early hours – an hour after staging another botched burglary at a Hampshire garage.

Now he is waking up behind bars after being sentenced for two counts of burglary.

Havard, 28, of Meacher Close, Southampton, admitted the charges.

Burglars caught - after talking about their crimes on Facebook

Three men who burgled a house were caught after discussing their crimes on Facebook.

Wayne Grant, 23, Terry Day, 24 and 20-year-old Robert Johnston – all of Southampton – were sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court after pleading guilty to burglary.

Grant was jailed for 30 months, Day for 20 months and Johnston was handed a 26-month jail term in a Young Offenders’ Institute.

Jailed for robbing bookies in at knifepoint

A prolific criminal who launched a terrifying knifepoint raid at a Southampton bookies was reeling from a powerful cocktail of legal highs.

Ian Smith threatened horrified staff with a kitchen knife before desperately scooping up notes falling to the floor in his intoxicated state.

Now he is waking up behind bars after being sentenced for robbery and possessing a bladed article in public.

Smith, 31, of Pat Bear Close, Southampton, admitted the charges - coming as he revealed he was too intoxicated to remember the raid - which he launched while out on licence following a previous terrifying attack.

Thug jailed for breaking man's ankle in attack

A man was left with a broken ankle after he was the victim of an unprovoked attack in a Southampton shopping centre.

Southampton Crown Court was told how David Talbot was with a group of friends in a car park of the Bargate centre when he thought it would be ‘funny’ to block the exit with his bicycle.

Prosecutor Gemma White explained that as the victim approached the exit in his car he was forced to get out of his vehicle and ask Talbot to move.

When he refused to move she said the victim grabbed Talbot’s bike which resulted in Talbot punching him with a force that sent him crashing to the ground and causing his broken ankle.

Judge Henry sentenced Talbot to 14 months in prison.
