FOUR friends are facing a 100km challenge to raise money for three cancer charities today.

Donna Newsum, Jayne Nikolic, Kimberley Norris and Lorna Wagner will be taking part in a night cycle for Charities Aid Foundation – Women V Cancer.

The cycle route around London will see them joined by hundreds of other women including celebrities Rachel Riley and Susie Dent from Channel 4's Countdown.

Funds raised from the night of action will support Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.

Donna said: “On Tuesday 6 November 2012 my little sister Kim lost her life to cancer. She was just 40 years of age.

“She left behind her childhood sweetheart and her beautiful daughters aged 13 and 11, along with many broken hearts of family and friends who loved her dearly.

“At the age of 31, Kim was diagnosed with breast cancer. Following a mastectomy and rigorous treatment, she took part in the challenge of hiking along The Great Wall of China, raising thousands for charity.

“As her health improved and while in a period of remission, she took part in marathons and half-marathons, while raising money to find a cure for cancer.

“In April 2011, eight years after first diagnosis, our worst fears became a reality, as Kim was told she had secondary cancer. She took the news with such strength, dignity and courage, and in April 2012, she took part in the London Marathon.”

Kimberley Norris said: “Nine years ago I discovered I had cervical cancer. This was able to be removed thankfully it was very early stage so no further treatment was needed. I hear so many ladies say that they do not have a smear because they don’t like it.

“No one likes having a smear but if I had not had mine would I be here today.”
