REVAMPED plans for a new “100 job” industrial park in Andover have been approved by councillors, just four months after previous proposals were rejected.

Test Valley Borough Council’s Northern Area Planning Committee met last week to discuss the amended plans to convert the now vacant site on Greenwich Way into a two-building industrial park.

Developers, Glenmore Commercial Estates, say the site could create between 55 and 109 new jobs for the town, with Topps Tiles, Magnet Kitchens and F1 Autocentre set to occupy three of the eight units.

The proposals, which have been recommended for approval by council planning chiefs, are said to be an “improvement” on the developer’s previous plans, which were thrown out by the NAPC committee in March.

Councillors rejected the plans due to “poor design and failure to improve the character, function and quality of the area”.

But the developers have now submitted revamped plans for the site, previously occupied by Integra Neurosciences before their move to a neighbouring plot in 2015.

The “improved” plans include new brick work, changes to the roof form to break up the mass of the building and landscaping to shelter it from Newbury Road.

A statement in the officer’s planning report to the NAPC said: “The proposal is for employmentgenerating uses on a former employment site, which would see the redevelopment of a vacant site and result in economic benefits.

“The design of the proposed buildings has been improved, and the landscaping proposed is significantly better.

“The overall appearance would integrate, respect and complement the character of the area.

“As such the previous reason for refusal is, on balance, considered to have been overcome.”

The report recommended councillors delegate to the council’s head of planning to accept the proposals.
