A WOMAN claimed to have a bomb after she was confronted in a Test Valley town, residents have told our sister paper, the Daily Echo.
Residents claimed that a woman entered Aldi in Romsey on Broadwater Road and took a bottle of whiskey.
When staff and customers pursued her she allegedly pulled a Stanley knife on them and had an air rifle slung over her shoulder.
According to one resident they had to wrestle the rifle and knife from her, at which point she is reported to have said she had a bomb and walked away.
A spokesperson for Hampshire police said: "We were called at 8.38pm to reports of an incident at a shop in Broadwater Road in Romsey that involved a woman with a knife.
"Officers attended the scene and no one was injured. A craft knife and an air rifle was recovered.
"A 55-year-old woman from Romsey was arrested on suspicion shoplifting and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
"She is currently in police custody."
