MORE than £3,000 was raised in a pool tournament organised by an Andover man in memory of his father.

The Mick Clark pool tournament was held at Andover Central Club in honour of Mick Clark Senior, who had a heart attack while playing pool two years ago.

He died while being taken care of at the Rainbow Rooms at West Berkshire Community Hospital.

The Rainbow Rooms were built as part of a project led by charity Newbury & District Cancer Care Trust.

The money raised by the tournament will be split evenly between the West Berkshire charity and the British Heart Foundation.

His son, Mick Clark Junior, who organised the event, said: “It was amazing, we made just over £3,000 to give support between the two charities.

“It was fantastic, I really enjoyed myself, I’m really pleased.

“Dad would have been proud.

“My mum was scared to come but once she got there she was fine, and she had a really good time,” he added.

“She was really pleased.”

Fifty-nine people attended the fundraiser, just over double that of the first event.

In the first year a defibrillator was bought for the club when 29 people turned up.

This year’s event also saw eight female players battle to take home the ladies winner cup, while a new ‘donk-of-the-day’ cup was given to the overall loser.

Mr Clark Junior said that to win the cup, all the losers had to play each other and whoever lost played the next round.

Of how the ‘winner’ felt, Mr Clark Junior added: “He loved it actually.”
