A MAJOR Hampshire based water company is due to close an Andover road later today as they carry out repairs on a water main that burst earlier this morning.

Southern Water were first made aware of an incident at 5am this morning and announced online 45 minutes later that a team of engineers were on their to make necessary repairs.

Just after 10.30am the water company announced that 'due to the complexity of the repairs, the burst in Andover, will take some more time to fix.'

A spokesperson for Southern Water said: "We were called to a burst water main in Finkley Road, Andover, at 5am this morning.

"We initially had 23 calls from customers to say they had no water.

"The pipe was isolated and supply re-diverted at about 8am, leaving four properties without water.

"Bottled water has been delivered to these customers.

"We’ll need to close Finkley Road, between Smannell Road and Manor Farm, to carry out the repair safely.

"We expect the closure and diversion to be in place soon.

"We’re sorry for the inconvience and will work as quickly as we can to restore supplies and reopen the road."
