A MAN has been arrested after ploughing into a service station petrol pump near Andover.

The 43-year-old, from Ireland, was detained by police on suspicion of drinking driving following the incident at the Buck Service Station last night.

Police were called to the petrol garage, located on the A303 near Longparish, at 10.30pm after a Peugeot van crashed into a pump.

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 10.30pm last night to reports of a single vehicle collision at Buck Garage on Basingstoke Road.

"A Peugeot van had collided with a petrol pump.

"Two men inside the vehicle were able to get out.

"They had suffered minor injuries and were taken to North Hampshire Hospital as a precaution.

"A 43-year-old man from Ireland has been arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle when above the alcohol limit.

"He has been bailed until May 4."

A fire crew from Andover also attended the scene to conduct safety work following the crash.

A spokesperson confirmed firefighters did not have to deal with a blaze or fuel spillage during the incident.
