AN ANDOVER pub boss is setting up her own charity to support local people affected by terminal and chronic illness.

The Queen Charlotte landlady, Vicki Thorp, will launch The Queen Charlotte (QC) Foundation with an event at the London Road watering hole tomorrow.

The mother-of-one hopes to use the event to raise money and support for her new charity which will help sufferers of life-changing or life-ending illnesses and their families.

The 42-year-old, who has run The Queen Charlotte more than a year, said: “I’ve always wanted to do charity work and about two or three months ago one of our regular customers was diagnosed with cancer.

“We raised £600 towards a mobility scooter and I realised we could raise more money to help others.

“So I decided to set up The Queen Charlotte Foundation, to help local people suffering from terminal and chronic illnesses, and others affected by it.”

Mrs Thorp hopes to raise money with a £1 monthly membership fee and special food offers.

This includes donating £1 to the foundation for every Queen Charlotte burger that the pub sells.

With the support of trustees Richard Clarke, Josey Wales and Charlotte Uwins, the ambitious landlady also hopes to put on fundraising events.

This will include a 24-hour pool marathon and a ‘Man vs Food’ style challenge.

The QC Foundation launch will take place at the London Road pub from 8pm on Saturday, May 27.

Mrs Thorp, said: “We’ll have live music on the night and an auction event.

“We’ve already had donations from Manchester United, Southampton Football Club and Bombay Sapphire.”
