A weather warning has been issued across Hampshire with weather experts predicting "thunderstorms and torrential downpours" this bank holiday weekend.

Despite temperatures reaching 26C, The Met Office hass issued a yellow warning of rain between 12pm Sunday and noon the following day.

A Met Office chief forecaster said: "Torrential rain and thunderstorms could give as much as 30mm, possibly 40mm in an hour in places.

"It is not certain where flooding impacts may occur, but it is likely to be in a few places rather than across the whole warning area.

"Lightning strikes are also possible, which bring a chance of power cuts."

Saturday is due to be a hot, humid and sunny day before cloud increases throughout the morning with temperatures reaching 23C in Andover.

Weather experts say temperatures on Sunday are set to hit 21C with a generally sunny start.

However clouds will then thicken then turn humid, with thunderstorms and torrential downpours possible overnight.

A Met Office spokesperson added: "There are early indications that this could result in some disruption, with sudden flooding of roads, transport routes, homes and businesses possible."
