A TEENAGER has avoided detention and been ordered to pay more than £1,000 in compensation after setting fire to property in Andover belonging to a housing developer.

The 19-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted to the arson of two shipping containers belonging to Taylor Wimpey jointly with a second youth in November last year.

He was sentenced to four months detention, suspended for two years, ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work in the community and pay £1,000 in compensation.

The second teenager, a 16-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons either, also admitted to the arson and was referred to the Hampshire youth offender panel with a nine-month contract and was ordered to pay £50 compensation.
