THE Chantry Shopping Centre, which was part of the Andover redevelopment in the 1960s, first opened in 1970, and before its refurbishment in 1990 was “open to the elements”.

The following images were taken by Irene Chambers of Andover who would often take photographs of an area where change in the town was due to take place. She took these photographs before the centre underwent a refurbishment which included adding a glass roof to it.

Irene has lived in the Andover area since 1966, and we at The Advertiser are delighted to share some of her images with our readers. There will be more to follow in future issues of the newspaper.

The Advertiser is always interested in photographs of yesteryear depicting town and village life down the years. If you have any interesting photographs that you are willing to lend or give, please send them to Derek Kane, Editorial Assistant, Andover Advertiser, 2b Union Street, Andover, SP10 IPA or e-mail derek.kane@andoveradvertiser.co.uk.
