A PAIR of charities have received a cash boost.

The Andover and District Mencap and Mind charities have each received more than £1,000 as the chosen charities of The Main Event which was put on last month.

Mencap was awarded a cheque for £1,239 and Mind given £1,240, presented by event organisers Let Me Drive You owner Chris Jackson, Iris Andersen, and businesses which sponsored the event.

Andover and District Mencap chief executive officer Chris Dixon said: “As a learning disability charity it is our mission to integrate our services in the community, and the more businesses understand about learning disabilities the easier that mission will be.

“It was fabulous to see so many local people and businesses support Chris and Iris in raising both money and the profile of two great charities.”

Mind business development coordinator Lisa Langman said: “We would like to thank Chris and Iris for the money raised which we are going to put towards buying promotional materials to continue the great work we do.”

Mr Jackson and Ms Andersen are considering making The Main Event the bi-annual event an annual affair due to the positive response receivecd.

Ms Andersen said: “We would like to thank all the local businesses that supported us in auction prizes and the White Hart, Mark and his team for holding our event so that we were able to come to this kind of money..

“I have supported Mencap for over 25 years, and Mind is a charity everybody at some time in their life needs.”
