A LIDL and a Starbucks drive thru could be coming to Andover with plans being put to the public at an exhibition next week.
The retail development has yet to be submitted in a formal planning application, but is proposed to take up plot 73 in Columbus Way on the Walworth Industrial Estate.
The public are now invited to view the plans and give feedback at a showcase being held at Evolution 50 at the business park, on Friday, 13 October from 11am until 6pm.
If given the go-ahead, Andover could have its first coffee shop drive thru and a second Lidl added to the town.
Supermarket giants including Tesco, Lidl, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose already have a presence in Andover with Morrisons the only major food retailer missing in the area.
Steven Rowling, 54, said: “Why another Lidl?
“I would probably go there because I live that side of town.
“Starbucks is a good idea as a drive thru but you have got an independent coffee shop on the estate that could be put out of business, but maybe it is creating good competition.”
Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) is working with property developers Kier on the proposal.
TVBC economic development portfolio holder councillor David Drew said: “Following on from the news that Ocado is bringing an extra 200 jobs to the area, yet again Andover is attracting positive attention from national and international retailers as the perfect place for business.”
