AN ANDOVER man ran more than the equivalent of four marathons over two days to help a toddler suffering from cancer.

Lewis Alderman ran 107 miles -or two ultra marathons - last weekend to help raise money for the 'A Dollar for Dawson' campaign in support of two-year-old Dawson Willcock who has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer - hepatoblastoma cancer.

His parents, based in Nottinghamshire, set up the campaign to raise £500,000 for lifesaving treatment in the U.S. and have so far raised more than £350,000.

Mr Alderman said he decided on the fundraiser to help his friend, Cole Hinchcliffe, who is Dawson's cousin and godfather.

The 23-year-old said: "He's my best friend so I wanted to do something to help, I felt I needed to do my part.

"I am a natural athlete who enjoys football and running but I wanted a challenge.

"I wanted to do something that someone has never done before.

"Something that would make people think ‘wow’.

"A lot of people run a marathon, a lot of people run ultra-marathons but not many people can say they have run two ultras in two days -well now I can!

"I had 10 weeks to train as time isn’t on Dawson’s side."

Mr Alderman started his running fundraiser at Oxford Football Club, where he played semi professional football, and finished at Dawson's home in Sutton, Ashfield.

Four of his friends, Ben Maloney, Martyn Ford , Matt Hodgson and Nic Turpin, supported Mr Alderman by running alongside him in 13 mile stints.

After the challenge, he said: "The challenge was very tough but worth all the pain I went through."

Mr Alderman hopes to raise £3,000 and believes he will hit his target.

He added hanks to Graham & Co, Woodstock Plumbing Supplies, Hampshire Plumbing and Heating Supplies for help with transportation and Nic Turpin Tiling for its help and support.
