A LEAP of faith.

I love a good film, and I don't think I'm alone in that. People the world over, young and old alike, are captivated by a good story. Our cinemas, libraries, homes, workplaces, schools, social gatherings and the places we inhabit on the internet are filled with stories. Ones that make us laugh and ones that make us cry. Ones that make us cling to those we love and ones that help us learn or remember important lessons about life.

One such story that continues to challenge me about faith and trust is Man of Steel, the most recent Superman (aka ‘Space Jesus’ to my youth group). There is a scene where Superman finds himself walking into a church contemplating sacrificing himself to save the human species. The minister sits and chats with him about this huge decision, and Superman asks him the question we have all uttered at times, "How can I trust them?"

The response from the minister is both simple and profound. "Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith first. The trust part comes later."

Figuring out who we can trust in life is an important skill, and the bond of trust in a relationship is often grown through many leaps of faith. On a personal level, I would say this is especially true of my relationship with God. Over the years He has asked me to take many leaps of faith, usually to reach out and show love to others (which is what God is all about) and I can honestly say that God has never let me down.

“Everyone who believes in Him will not be put to shame.” The Bible, Romans 10:11. There are many verses in the Bible that talk about faith and trust in God and how He will not let us down when we take a leap of faith towards Him. God promises us that life will be difficult at times, but that if we put our faith in Him and trust Him, then He will always be with us and give us strength in those times.

I'm so glad I took that first leap of faith towards God that started me on my life-changing journey with Him. How about you? Is it time for a leap of faith?
