A SUPERMARKET is recalling some of its Rooster’s Southern Fried Poppin’ Chicken as they may contain "small pieces of hard plastic which could present a safety risk."

Customers have been asked to return the item and warned not to eat the product.

A spokesperson said: "As a precautionary measure we have initiated a recall of this product as it may contain small pieces of hard plastic material.

"Please do not consume this product.

"Customers are asked to return this product to the nearest store, where a full refund will be given.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation.

The products being recalled are lot number 10101701, code numbers 45004 are 75744, with a best before date of April, 9 2019.

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product, which will explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
