A HARROW Way woman has transformed part of her home into Christmas winter wonderland to raise money for Great Ormond’s Street Hospital Charity.

June Baker got to work way back in the the second week of November to put up her magical display in time for Friday 1, December, in a tradition she has carried out since 1998.

This is the second year she has collected for Great Ormond’s Street, and hopes to bypass her previous fundraising total of £280, to get as much as she can for the children’s charity.

Mrs Baker said: “It is a lot of hard work but it is well worth it. It really is beautiful.

“I’ve been collecting items from America since 1993, they are really big Mickey and Mini Mouses, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast which are all animated, and light up and move.

“A 16-month-old came in to see the display recently and she had her photo taken by the tree and she loved every minute of it.

“Before what I was doing was just word of mouth, there’s nothing really outside my house to advertise it so I’ve been a bit disappointed when not so many people have come round. I’m quite happy for people to come and have a look all day.”

The huge Christmas tree in the living room takes three days to decorate and Mrs Baker insists no-one is allowed to go into the display room until it is completely finished.

Mrs Baker added her husband Frederick “doesn’t mind” having the display around in the home for three weeks.

The Bakers will be hosting the display and looking for donations to Great Ormond’s Street until Friday 5, January.
