Local volunteers spent a total of 1,800 hours supporting the Andover Ramblers’ footpath team maintaining and improving rights of way network over the past year.

Andover Ramblers’ praised the volunteers at its annual general meeting for their “devoted” work, which included inspecting paths, cutting back vegetation, clearing paths of fallen trees and branches, building and maintaining steps and stiles, making footbridges safer and erecting signposts in the Andover area.

Volunteers also spent time researching and preparing the case for restoring lost rights of way to the map before legislation changes in 2026.

Andover Ramblers chairman Mike Peacock said: “1,800 hours is a staggering figure when you consider this is devoted local volunteers giving up their free time in order to improve the local environment.

“We live in a beautiful part of Britain and it is vital that residents, as well as visitors, are able to freely access it.

"The entire community thus benefits from the hard work of our members.”
