FIVE representatives from an Andover youth project took a trip to Westminster on Monday to tell an MP and a lord about the challenges they face.

The 16 to 24-year-old members of the Streets Project met with Lord Stoneham and North West Hampshire MP Kit Malthouse to explain the frustrations of being a young person in Andover, such as issues of employment, and to gain support for their organisation.

Streets started up in 2015 as an initiative to improve young people’s life skills in a peer education environment, addressing youth issues such as education and training, positive relationships and healthy living.

The project is run and managed by Love Andover, the community development arm of Andover Radio.

Mr Malthouse said: “It was a pleasure to see my good friend Mo Sweeney from Andover Radio and a group of young people from the constituency after their tour of these marvellous buildings. We discussed funding for youth services in Andover and I offered my support for their upcoming bids.”

Lord Stoneham also offered his help with growth of the project.

The Streets members who attended were Tom Hurring, Ryan Howarth, Harry Bryant, Sophie Stanley and Ethan Saupe.

Tom said: “It was really useful and fascinating, especially in the House of Lords, seeing peers playing on their phones while there were important matters to be discussed.”

The group hopes to arrange another meeting with Mr Malthouse in the new year.
