TWO retro-dressed runners completed their milestone 250th track at Andover parkrun last Saturday.

Lance Mitchell and Matthew Jeffrey ran the route in under 27 minutes dressed as TV 118-118 characters - only to replace the number with 250 to mark the occasion.

The duo each won themselves a landmark running top for their achievement, and are now aiming for the 500 runs milestone.

Andover parkrun event director Simon Eggington said: “Lance and Matt have been regulars at Andover parkrun since its beginning and to reach 250 runs is an amazing achievement, they are only the 17th and 18th at Andover to achieve this.

“Andover parkrun has grown every year and has had over 6,200 runners complete the two-lap course at Charlton lakes, with around 300 now attending every week.”

The 6 January run saw a record of 371 runners taking part in the growing fitness phenomenon.

Pleased with how the run went, Lance said: “It really was a wonderful day and everybody was so supportive.

“We had a lot of fun and it was made even more special because my lovely niece, Katrina, was able to join me.”

Fellow runner Rob Bryan also supported Lance and Matt by joining the fancy dress efforts as another 118-118 icon.

Andover parkrun takes place every Saturday morning at 9am at Charlton Playing Fields.

Mr Eggington added: “It is 100% run by volunteers with about 25 a week helping to create a free run/walk that everyone from four upwards and any ability can come along to.

“We have people running it in 16 minutes and others walk it in over an hour, your aim maybe to get fit, do something as a family together or just make some friends.”
