A TEAM of engineers are fundraising for a 10-year-old boy by tackling the highest peak in Wales, taking with them a fully functioning tumble dryer.

Engineers from Hoover Candy, a company with a team based in Andover, have grouped together to take on this challenge with a twist to raise money for the grandson of a colleague, Jesse Challis, who was diagnosed with a cancerous Medulloblastoma tumour.

In the August and September of last year, Tyler suffered from constant headaches which were thought to be migraines.

His mother Christine Brunton took him to see a GP, who immediately referred him to specialists at the Royal United Hospital in Bath where a brain scan showed he had a cancerous tumour.

Over the past five months, he has undergone an operation to remove most of the tumour and has undergone radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment.

He has four rounds of chemotherapy left as well as regular physiotherapy to restore the movement on his left side following the surgery.

On Sunday, 6 May, the Hoover Candy team will be carrying a dismantled tumble dryer to the top of Snowdon, then rebuilding it in full working order at the top.

The funds raised will be used so that Tyler and his family can go on a holiday together.

Stacey Knight, who organised the event, said: “When we heard the news about Tyler we absolutely knew we had to do something to bring back a little magic into his life and those of his family.

“To endure such a devastating and life-changing ordeal and have the strength and determination Tyler has shown, is incredible and he deserves so much to enjoy being a child again.

“We think that this wonderful little boy deserves something very special and we welcome everyone’s help.”

Among the climbing team is Carl Knight from Andover, who is a team leader for Hoover Candy.

Mr Knight said: “Tyler is an extraordinary boy who despite his condition continues to be his happy and cheerful self.

“We want to raise as much as we possibly can to give the whole family an experience they will never forget. They all deserve to have a lot of fun and to enjoy life again.”
